(Editor’s Note: This series on Restoring Gen Z’s Identity is dedicated to Charlie Kirk, 31, who was shot in Provo, Utah, on Sept. 10th at noon while on stage at his “American Comeback tour” at Utah Valley University while answering a question on transgenderism and violence. He was married to Erika Frantzve, Miss Arizona 2012, and father of two young children: a daughter born in Aug. 2022 and a son born in May 2024.)

CALIRED NEWS–Mary Margaret Olohan is Restoring Gen Z’s Identity by sharing her May 2024 book called “True Stories of Escaping the Gender Ideology Cult”, which is available on Amazon and with book sellers everywhere.
Olohan addresses the growing number of teens and pre-teens that were persuaded they were born with the wrong body. They were goaded by a toxic online “community” and assisted by teachers, doctors and even their own parents and are set “on the path of puberty-blockers, cross-sex hormones, and ‘gender-affirming’ surgeries.”
According to Olohan, “Gay Pride Month” every June has become an “unquestioning celebration” not just of Lesbians, Gays, and Bisexuals, but also of Transitioning. Detransitioners’ experience reveals that “there’s more complexity and pain involved in that category than most people will ever guess.”
Olohan’s book features multiple interviews with detransitioners and gives a voice to young people who were caught up in this damaging ideology. And their testimony—including from the lawsuits they have filed against the gender-affirming medical and therapeutic professionals who treated them—is “unforgettable.”
The Christian Broadcasting Network News reported that young people were “told that the reason that they didn’t feel comfortable at school, the reason they didn’t have a lot of friends, the reason that they didn’t feel special, is because they weren’t in the right body. And that if they got into this right body that all of their problems would disappear, and they would feel happy and content and fulfilled. And of course, this is a lie,” Olohan said.
“A lot of these girls got double mastectomies, which is called ‘top surgery,’ before they were legal adults. In fact, I’ve heard of girls who are so mentally ill…they asked the doctors, how long will it take for them to grow back because there’s no understanding of what’s actually going on here.”
Olohan noted that “girls who undergo these procedures believe they’ll look just like boys, only to emerge from surgery with ‘very gruesome looking’ scars.” She called these procedures “invasive and tragic.”
Detransitioners, those who underwent trans treatment and surgeries before choosing to instead accept their biological sex “are speaking out, calling for the protection of children. As they do so, they often face attacks and rejection.”
Perhaps the most famous detransitioner is Chloe Cole, a young adult who took puberty blockers for years and underwent a double mastectomy at 15. Now, she has made a name for herself by opposing trans surgeries and treatments on the national stage.
CBN News reports that her testimony before Congress “has helped change the way states look at gender-affirming care,” citing that half of the states in our nation block surgery and puberty blockers for children under 18.
(Editor’s Note: The Salt and Light Council is hosting a free zoom online lecture Monday, Sept. 15 at 5:45 p.m. PST on “Restoring Gen Z’s Identity” with special speaker Chole Cole, who underwent medical “transition” of her biological sex as a female from ages 13-16 after informing her parents that she identified as a transgender boy at 12. Register online through Zoom to watch Chloe Cole on Monday, Sept 15, at Salt and Light Council.)
