Stories Speak Volumes: Feb 13-Feb 20

A Round-Up of National and International News

Compiled by

There are so many stories making up the mosaic of national/international news that we can’t cover them all every week. The biggest stories now seem to be: Israel and Iran, the Trump presidency (lawfare and judges), immigration (migrants and illegals), wars, weaponization of government (the deep state) against Trump and conservatives, our nation’s debt, massive inflation, climate change controversy and related expenses of government, industry attempting to address these issues, the Chinese threat, national security, abortion, taxpayer cuts, Ukraine peace, and hatred and violence against Christians. Here are just a few:

Former Obama White House Counsel – And Goldman Sachs’s Top Lawyer – Kathryn Ruemmler Resigns Over Epstein Files Showing Her ‘Extensive Relationship’ With the Late Pedophile

Feb. 13: Gateway Pundit by Paul Serran

Kathryn ‘Kathy’ Ruemmler, former White House counsel to Barack Obama and presently top lawyer at investment bank Goldman Sachs, announced her upcoming resignation yesterday. This comes after a deluge of emails between her and Jeffrey Epstein were released by the DOJ, showing a close relationship where she described him as an ‘older brother’ and made little of his sex crimes.

Associated Press reported: “Ruemmler said in a statement that she would ‘step down as Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel of Goldman Sachs as of June 30, 2026. Up until her resignation, Ruemmler repeatedly tried to distance herself from the emails and other correspondence and had been defiant that she would not resign from Goldman’s top legal post, which she had held since 2020. While Ruemmler has called Epstein a ‘monster’ in recent statements, she had a much different relationship with Epstein before he was arrested a second time for sex crimes in 2019 and later killed himself in a Manhattan jail. Ruemmler called Epstein ‘Uncle Jeffrey’ in emails and said she adored him.”

Rep. Tim Burchett Claims Barack Obama Was ‘Created by the Deep State’ — Alleges Jeffrey Epstein Operated Freely During Obama Years

Feb. 14: Gateway Pundit by Jim Hoft

In an explosive interview with Benny Johnson, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) didn’t hold back, tearing into Barack Obama’s sudden political rise and his administration’s alarming proximity to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. “The vast majority of Epstein’s most heinous crimes took place while Barack Obama was President,” Johnson noted. “Jeffrey Epstein got out of jail right as Barack Obama was being put into office… And it’s his lawyer, the White House Counsel, who’s communicating with this pedophile.” According to the Tennessee Republican, Obama’s presidency wasn’t a natural political phenomenon—it was a calculated move by powerful shadow figures.

“Because President Obama was created. He’s not organic,” Burchett said. “I mean, you pick this obscure guy from college who has zero records. You have college professors that don’t remember him ever being there.” Burchett described a pattern of mysterious dropouts and unopposed races that paved the way for Obama’s meteoric rise from a state senator to the Presidency. “He goes from a state senator to a US senator to an unknown to being President of the United States because he was created,” Burchett explained. “They found somebody that fit their mold. That’s the way Obama was. He fit the suit,” Burchett said. “He was a good-looking, articulate guy… and came up through the corrupt Chicago machine.”

The Congressman warned that this wasn’t a one-time event, pointing to members of “The Squad” like AOC as other examples of candidates manufactured by billionaire donors to push a radical agenda.

Pam Bondi Announces All Epstein-Related Materials Released — Pelosi, Obama, Newsom, Biden and Other Democrats Named in Files

Feb. 15: Gateway Pundit by Jim Hoft

The letter includes a list of more than 300 high-profile names. The list is a “Who’s Who” of the liberal elite and establishment figures, including Barack and Michelle Obama, Joe and Hunter Biden, Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton, and Bill Gates. And yes, Nancy Pelosi and Gavin Newsom make the list. It appears the Epstein Files have backfired on the left. Multiple powerful Democrats have been exposed, and Trump has been vindicated as the whistleblower. (Editor’s Note: To see list of 300 names go to the link below:)

Newsom Gives $90 Million In ‘Emergency’ Funds to Planned Parenthood

Feb. 15: Western Journal by Michael Austin

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill on Wednesday giving $90 million in tax dollars to Planned Parenthood, marking just the latest infusion of cash from the Golden State to the abortion behemoth. A release from Newsom’s office said the $90 million came in the form of “one-time emergency funds for Planned Parenthood and other clinics providing reproductive health care services.”

California has already vowed $145 million for Planned Parenthood since last fall alone. There are over 100 Planned Parenthood facilities across California — and Newsom’s release said California would assist them as women obtain purported “basic health care needs.”

In September of last year, he signed a bill allowing abortion pill providers to ship the substances anonymously — a bid to help the providers avoid lawsuits from conservative state governments. Many other legislative actions have revolved around abortion pills, which now compose nearly two-thirds of abortions in the United States. Newsom created an “emergency stockpile” of misoprostol, one of the two drugs commonly used in abortion pill regiments, in April 2023. Newsom also supported Proposition 1 in 2022, which amended the state constitution to enshrine the so-called “right” to murder preborn babies and use contraception.

Trump Threatens Death Penalty If Nancy Guthrie Is Killed

Feb. 16: Daily Caller by Lena Nasir

President Donald Trump threatened Nancy Guthrie’s alleged kidnappers with the death penalty if she is not returned alive in a Feb. 16 interview. Trump told the New York Post that those responsible for the alleged abduction of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” host Savannah Guthrie have a limited window to act by freeing her uninjured or they will face the “most severe” consequences. Trump said over the phone that he would want the Justice Department (DOJ) to pursue the death penalty if Nancy is killed.

Facts About George Washington

Feb. 16: The Daily Signal by George Caldwell

On Presidents Day, officially known as Washington’s Birthday, Americans celebrate the life of George Washington. Here are some facts about George Washington that you might not know.

–The Only Unanimously Elected President: To this day, Washington is the only president to receive all the votes from the Electoral College—and he did it twice. Washington won the electoral votes of all ten states that participated in the first election in the winter of 1788 and 1789, with North Carolina, New York, and Rhode Island not taking part for various reasons. In 1792, Washington would carry the electoral votes of all 15 states. Washington set a two-term precedent which was codified by the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution in 1951.

–Real Estate Magnate: Like America’s current president, Washington has a background in real estate. He was a major landowner, owning over 50,000 acres of land at the time of his death. His various properties stretched across the areas that are now Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Kentucky.

–Led An Army as President: A president personally leading troops toward a potential military engagement is unheard of in modern times. In 1794, as president, Washington personally organized a militia and led it toward western Pennsylvania to suppress the Whiskey Rebellion, a violent uprising against a federal tax on whiskey. The militia did not engage in battle upon arriving in western Pennsylvania, but Washington did play a hands-on role in putting together a military response to the rebellion.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore Blames Trump for Sewage Spill from His State into the Potomac

Feb. 17: Gateway Pundit by Jordan Conradson

A sewage spill from Montgomery County, Maryland, north of DC, which began on January 19, 2026, was estimated to have discharged nearly 300 million gallons of sewage into the famed river. Meanwhile, DC and Maryland officials still do not have a handle on the crisis, which is killing wildlife and ruining plans for recreation on the river.

President Trump on Monday said he is activating the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) while slamming Moore’s “Gross Mismanagement” of the situation, adding, “This is the same Governor who cannot rebuild a Bridge. It is clear Local Authorities cannot adequately handle this calamity. Therefore, I am directing Federal Authorities to immediately provide all necessary Management, Direction, and Coordination to protect the Potomac, the Water Supply in the Capital Region, and our treasured National Resources in our Nation’s Capital City,” Trump said.

Vermont Spent Millions on Electric Buses That Turned Out to Be ‘Unreliable’ In Cold Weather

Feb. 17: Gateway Pundit by Mike LaChance

The Vermont Daily Chronicle reports: Electric buses are proving unreliable this winter for Vermont’s Green Mountain Transit, as it needs to be over 41 degrees for the buses to charge, but due to a battery recall the buses are a fire hazard and can’t be charged in a garage.

Spokesman for energy workers advocacy group Power the Future Larry Behrens told the Center Square: “Taxpayers were sold an $8 million ‘solution’ that can’t operate in cold weather when the home for these buses is in New England.”

Inside World’s Top Science Society’s Convention Bashing Trump, Pushing DEI, Pronouns

Feb. 17: Fox News by Andrew Mark Miller

One of the world’s largest and most influential scientific societies held its annual conference last weekend, which a Fox News Digital review found was littered with examples of progressive messaging, criticisms of the Trump administration, and “woke” workshops.

Attendees who showed up at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) event, held at the Phoenix Convention Center from Feb. 12-14, were immediately greeted at registration with identifier stickers that used gender pronouns such as “they/them,” “xi/xer,” “xe/xem,” and other descriptors that critics have alleged have little to do with science and biology.

During the meeting’s opening night, AAAS CEO Dr. Sudip Parikh told the audience that it’s been a “hard” and “tough year for science and scientists in this country.” Parikh went on to blame DOGE for the “devastation” of “some of our science agencies” and the “president’s budget request” that “cut science by half” and, in his opinion, amounted to “forfeiting the future.”

Minneapolis Pastor Says Don Lemon Was ‘In on the Terror’ Of Church Invasion

Feb. 18: The Daily Signal by Tyler O’Neil

Former CNN host Don Lemon has pleaded not guilty to federal charges for his role in the invasion of a Minnesota church last month, claiming he was merely covering the “protest” as a journalist, but the church’s pastor says Lemon was “in on the terror.”

Jonathan Parnell, the pastor of Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, had been attempting to read aloud from the Bible when agitators opposing Immigration and Customs Enforcement disrupted the Jan. 18 service. He wrote about the event for World magazine Tuesday.

Parnell recalled that “several individuals scattered throughout the sanctuary rose together and, like a flash mob, converged with chants and clenched fists.” When the mob shouted, “Hands up! Don’t shoot!” that led worshippers to flee, “fearing it was an active shooter situation.”

A federal grand jury indicted nine people, including Lemon, on two charges: violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, which also protects access to churches; and violating the Ku Klux Klan Act, which criminalizes efforts to deprive Americans of their fundamental rights—in this case the right to the free exercise of religion.

According to the indictment, between 20 and 40 agitators, who claimed to be opposing Immigration and Customs Enforcement because one of the church’s pastors worked for ICE, refused to leave when asked and shouted, “Who shut this down? We shut this down!”

The indictment also mentions that agitators screamed at crying children, blocked parents from getting to their children in Sunday School, and that one agitator told a child that his parents were Nazis and going to hell.

The indictment states that Lemon strategized with the group’s leaders Nekima Levy Armstrong and Chauntyll Louisa Allen before the invasion, and notes that Lemon said the group planned to “disrupt business as usual” at the church. Lemon appeared to hide the target location on his livestream, before the disruption.

Two Executives Sentenced To 20 Years In $233M Scam

Feb. 19:  Gateway Pundit by Jim Hoft

Two healthcare executives have been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison each after orchestrating a massive $233 million fraud scheme targeting Obamacare subsidies, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. The convicted defendants, identified in court documents as Cory Lloyd of Stuart, Florida and Steven Strong of Mansfield, Texas, were found guilty of running a years-long operation that preyed on tens of thousands of vulnerable Americans, including individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, and mental health struggles.

Federal prosecutors revealed that Lloyd and Strong:

  • Improperly enrolled low-income individuals into fully subsidized ACA plans
  • Submitted false income information to qualify applicants for federal subsidies
  • Deliberately bypassed federal income-verification systems
  • Filed thousands of Medicaid applications designed to be denied, allowing year-round enrollment into subsidized ACA plans outside normal enrollment periods

By gaming the system, the pair sought more than $233 million in fraudulent ACA plan subsidies, with the federal government ultimately paying out at least $180 million in taxpayer-funded benefits tied to false enrollments.

Supreme Court Strikes Down Trump’s Tariffs as Unlawful

Feb. 20:  Forbes by Alison Durkee

Justices ruled 6-3 against Trump’s tariffs, ruling the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, or IEEPA, which Trump used to invoke the tariffs, does not authorize the president to impose sweeping tariffs.

IEEPA gives presidents broad powers to impose economic sanctions during national emergencies, but does not specify those powers include imposing tariffs, and the Supreme Court ruled it cannot be interpreted to apply to tariffs—with a smaller subset of justices also arguing Trump trying to use the law to impose tariffs “extend[s] beyond the President’s ‘legitimate reach.’”

The court’s decision comes after two lower courts ruled against the Trump administration and struck the tariffs down as unlawful, though the duties had remained in place while the Supreme Court considered the issue.

Trump officials have already said they intend to impose new tariffs under other laws if the IEEPA tariffs were struck down, but the court’s ruling Friday will halt the tariffs that are already in place, and make it harder for the government to impose such sweeping duties going forward.

The court’s ruling also appears to apply retroactively, meaning companies can likely seek refunds for the millions of dollars they’ve already paid in tariffs—a process the court acknowledged during its oral arguments is “likely to be a ‘mess.’”

President Says Democratic-Appointed Justices Are ‘Against Anything That Makes America Strong’ Following 6-3 Ruling

Feb. 20: Fox News by Emma Colton

President Donald Trump grudgingly praised the trio of liberal justices on the U.S. Supreme Court who helped block his use of an emergency law to impose sweeping tariffs on trading partners, pointing to their “loyalty” to Democrats.  “The Democrats on the court are thrilled, but they will automatically vote no,” Trump said Friday during a press conference. “They’re no automatic no. Just like in Congress, they’re an automatic no. They’re against anything that makes America strong, healthy and great again. They also are frankly a disgrace to our nation. Those justices, they’re an automatic no. No matter how good a case you have. It’s a no.”

Trump held a press conference at the White House Friday, just hours after the Supreme Court ruled that Trump exceeded his authority by imposing sweeping tariffs using emergency powers. The decision was a 6-3 ruling, with conservative Justices Brett Kavanaugh, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissenting.

Trump praised the three conservatives who dissented. “I’d like to thank and congratulate Justices Thomas, Alito and Kavanaugh for their strength and wisdom and love of our country, which is right now very proud of those justices,” he said. “When you read the dissenting opinions, there’s no way that anyone can argue against them.” Trump continued that the ruling “did not overrule tariffs, but “merely overruled a particular use of IEEPA tariffs.”  The International Emergency Economic Powers Act is a 1977 emergency powers law that lets a president, after declaring a national emergency tied to a foreign threat, restrict or regulate certain international economic transactions — most commonly to impose sanctions. Trump relied on IEEPA as the legal basis for the tariffs the Court struck down, ruling that the statute does not authorize tariffs.
