Retiring City Manager Proposes Two Options to Solve Redding’s Budget Deficit

CALIRED NEWS–Retiring City Manager Barry Tippin proposed two options to solve Redding’s budget deficit near the end of the Tuesday, Sept. 16 City Council meeting.
The Redding City Manager’s presentation came following an oral report made by the City of Redding Public Works’ Street Division which outlined the City’s Pavement Condition Index that showed the majority of Redding’s roads were in the Poor Zone not in the Fair Zone nor in the Good Zone.

Redding Council Proclamation Continues Local Emergency Due To Flooding

CALIRED NEWS–A Redding City Council proclamation (Agenda 4.1a-b) continues a Feb. 2, 2025 local emergency due to flooding that has caused repairs, replacement of public facilities that resulted in a Proclamation of a State of Emergency issued by Gov. Gavin Newsom to Shasta, Humboldt, Mendocino, Modoc, Napa, Sonoma and Trinity Counties initiated by a request from Shasta County Board of Supervisors Chair Kevin Crye to the California Office of Emergency Services.

Redding Council To Decide On Raising Sales Tax By 1 Percent On Nov. 4 Ballot

CALIRED NEWS–The Redding City Council decided on a 4-1 vote (Agenda 9:12a2) this evening (Aug. 5) to place a 1 percent sales tax increase (to 8.25 percent) on the Nov. 4 general election ballot which if passed by voters would raise an estimated additional $30 million. The lone dissenting vote was made by Council Member Tenessa Audette who wanted to delay the vote from a special election this fall at a cost between $300,00–$500,000 to Nov. 3, 2026 (next year’s general election).
