Sen. Megan Dahle’s Office: 2026 Legislative Package Also Aims to Help Seniors‚ Rural Health Care

As the 2026 legislative year continues‚ I am pleased to announce that I have introduced my main bill package for the year. As is always the case‚ my heart and my priorities are with rural California and the needs of its residents. There will be much more legislative news to come as the session develops‚ but here’s a brief rundown of the main bills I have introduced:
Senate Bill 1064: To win regulatory relief for farmers and small businesses in the North State‚ this bill would streamline a new Clean Truck Check mandate developed by the California Air Resources Board. My bill would require testing every other year – as is the case for passenger vehicles – instead of inspections that will ramp up to four times a year starting in 2027. Californians support clean air‚ but I don’t believe they back burying businesses in one more costly mandate‚ especially one so redundant.
Senate Bill 1343: As all too many residents of the North State know‚ rebuilding after a wildfire or other natural disaster can be painfully expensive and difficult‚ even for those with insurance. Working with Sen. Ben Allen‚ a Southern California Democrat whose constituents suffered severe losses in the Los Angeles wildfires last year‚ I am jointly authoring this bill to grant an income‑tax credit for homeowners‚ as well as nonprofit builders‚ for the sales tax paid on materials and furnishings when rebuilding after a disaster. This is a creative and concrete approach to directing real relief toward those afflicted by disasters.
Senate Bill 1096: Another tax measure I have introduced would help seniors who are raising their grandchildren. For many reasons‚ parents sometimes cannot raise their children‚ and grandparents lovingly step in to fill the gap. All too often‚ they are raising the next generation while trying to get by on retirement income. Unfortunately‚ tax breaks aimed at families such as the Earned Income Tax Credit do not help those raising children while collecting a pension or other retirement income. SB 1096 would create a senior tax credit to provide similar assistance for grandparents. I am pleased to work with the California Senior Legislature on this bill.
Senate Bill 1102: And one more tax credit – this one for nurses who agree to work for rural hospitals and clinics in areas with chronic shortages of health providers. Patients in these communities have serious needs‚ but recruiting staff in competition with larger health systems is a constant struggle. SB 1102 would provide an extra incentive for nurses who work in these underserved communities and provide critical rural healthcare.
Senate Bill 1086: This bill creates a framework for the state to recognize microschools and allows them to operate without facing the risk of being at odds with local zoning. Families around California are increasingly seeking alternative paths for educating their children – including private microschools and home‑school collectives – and it’s important for the law to recognize this choice and support parents who make it.

Sen. Megan Dahle Recognizes Longtime Siskiyou Leader in Education, Ag: Maryann Kaae-Munson Honored as Woman of the Year
March 17, 2026
As the California Legislature recognizes Women’s History Month in March, Sen. Megan Dahle is very proud to announce that Maryann Kaae-Munson is the 2026 1st Senate District Woman of the Year – recognizing many years of community service in Siskiyou County.
A resident of the Scott Valley, Kaae-Munson is a dedicated cattle rancher and longtime member of the Siskiyou County CattleWomen, where she has served in leadership roles, including as Chairperson, contributing to the organization’s awards programs and community initiatives promoting the beef industry.
Through her work with College Options, she connected rural Northern California students — particularly in Siskiyou County — with higher education opportunities, serving as a counselor and advisor to empower youth from areas like Yreka, Etna and Happy Camp to pursue college and career paths.
A committed community leader, Kaae-Munson has served as Vice Chairman on the board of Siskiyou Credit Union, supporting local financial access in rural California.
She is also a loving wife to her husband, Cliff, and the proud mother of six.
“Maryann has been deeply committed for many years to the farm community of Siskiyou County and to the challenge of steering the North State’s teenagers onto the right path to adulthood,” said Sen. Dahle. “Hers has been a life of service. I am deeply grateful for her work, which has helped so many, and to call her a friend.”
