Newsom Calls Special Nov. 4 Election to Eliminate GOP CA Congressional Seats

CALIRED NEWS–Democrat California Governor Gavin Newsom announced today (at an Aug. 14 press conference in downtown Los Angeles) that he is calling a special election on Nov. 4th to tear up the state’s congressional map in favor of a gerrymandered map that eliminates Republican seats and will counter Texas efforts to remove five Democrat seats despite California voters having voted in a state constitutional amendment to create an “independent” redistricting commission that looks at congressional districts every 10 years.

Redding Council To Decide On Raising Sales Tax By 1 Percent On Nov. 4 Ballot

CALIRED NEWS–The Redding City Council decided on a 4-1 vote (Agenda 9:12a2) this evening (Aug. 5) to place a 1 percent sales tax increase (to 8.25 percent) on the Nov. 4 general election ballot which if passed by voters would raise an estimated additional $30 million. The lone dissenting vote was made by Council Member Tenessa Audette who wanted to delay the vote from a special election this fall at a cost between $300,00–$500,000 to Nov. 3, 2026 (next year’s general election).
