This Wednesday, April 15 is Tax Day and I’m sending you the Tax Increase Notice below listing all the ways CA Democrats are trying to raise your taxes this year. Before I get into the list below of 8 tax hikes CA Democrats are planning in 2026, I want to outline how we are fighting back through three game-changing ballot measures we’re fighting to pass this November:

• The Save Prop 13 Initiative restores the two-thirds vote requirement for local tax hikes and completely eliminates the crazy new “Property Transfer Tax” scheme many localities are now imposing.
• The Stop the Savings Tax Initiative prohibits any tax on the value of your assets such as property, savings accounts, retirement accounts, investments, etc. and also prohibits the imposition of retroactive tax hikes.
• The Audit Special Taxes Initiative makes it harder for politicians to impose new special tax assessments and requires audits of any programs that receive special tax revenues.

Passing these powerful ballot measures will be a GAME-CHANGER to give all California taxpayers billions in relief from our state’s crushing tax burdens.

Unfortunately, California politicians have a substantial funding advantage and are trying to defeat these three ballot measures! We need immediate resources to build out a statewide grassroots campaign to win in November!

TAX DAY NOTICE: 8 Proposed California Tax Hikes Pending in the 2026 Election

Even though Californians already pay the highest taxes in the nation, our state and local politicians are still proposing billions in new tax hikes! Here’s what is at stake in the November 2026 election:

1. Property Tax Hikes/Prop 13 Repeal: Politicians have gutted Prop 13 and want to fully repeal it with their Split-Roll Initiative – with their ultimate goal of increasing your property taxes on your home to today’s assessed value! If that happens, the average homeowner will end up paying $6500-9000 more in property taxes annually.

2. Savings Tax: Politicians want a new tax on your personal savings and investments.

3. Mileage Tax: Politicians are proposing a 6-cents per mile tax costing an average of $900 per driver per year!

4. Sales Tax Hike: We are tracking over 250 local sales tax hikes and now state politicians are looking at a statewide sales tax hike. Soon every city will be at 10-11% sales tax rate for every item you purchase.

5. Healthcare Tax: Politicians propose to double California state taxes to fund government-run healthcare – costing average of $16k per household per year.

6. Utility Tax: Politicians want to impose massive “flat rate charges” on all utility bills – charging you no matter how much energy you use.

7. Gas Tax: The gas tax is set to automatically increase July 1. You currently pay $1,200 a year in car and gas taxes.

8. Exit Tax: And if you finally decide to move from California because of these costly taxes, state politicians want to force you to pay an exit tax for up to 10 years after you leave!
