“We The People” Petitions Oxnard District to Let Jesus Back into Schools

Bible Clubs, Library Resources, Christian Supplemental Curriculum Sought

OXNARD, CA–“We The People” activists Mary Keyser, Gloria Massey Chinea and Rolando Chinea are bringing signed petitions to the Wednesday, April 22 (5 p.m). Oxnard Union High School District board meeting asking the district to let Jesus back into the public schools making requests that include: Bible Clubs, library resources (Bibles in every school library) and Christian supplemental curriculum (such as Ben Carson’s “Little Patriots” and David Barton’s “Wall Builders”) for teaching U.S. history.

The district meeting will be held at Administrative Offices at 18000 Solar Drive, Oxnard, CA 93030 where eight different petitions that also includes a public request made to Supt. Dr. Tom McCoy (Agenda Action Item 15I) for:

  • Recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance over the school public address each morning for all students.
  • Display of “In God We Trust” above each school entryway.
  • Voluntary Weekly Instruction Opportunities during which students with parental permission may attend Bible-based instruction (which may include teachings related to Creation).
  • Health Education Presentations requiring parental consent that includes instruction on abstinence and the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases.

As of Friday, April 17, some 729 Ventura County residents had signed the We The People petition supporting the proposal to the Board of Trustees. Organizers hope to have 200 plus supporters at the Oxnard Union High School District board meeting.
