What Does Texas GOP Senate Vote Mean?

RINOs Out: This is MAGA Time!

Written by Mike Hernandez

AUSTIN, TX–Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton defeating GOP Senator John Cornyn, a 23-year Senate incumbent, in Tuesday’s Republican U.S. Senate runoff by more than 25 percentage points shows that Republicans In Name Only (RINOs) are out and the Make America Great Again (MAGA) has swept Texas after a late but complete endorsement from President Donald J. Trump.

Paxton’s victory comes one week after the President gave him his “complete and total endorsement” calling him “the highly respected Attorney General of Texas, an America First Patriot” and “someone who has always been extremely loyal” to Trump and the MAGA movement. President Trump praised Paxton as a supporter of terminating the filibuster and pushing forward the SAVE America Act (for election integrity) while saying Paxton would fight to cut taxes and regulations, secure the border, stop migrant crime, protect the Second Amendment, support Texas oil and gas, and safeguard elections.

Texas GOP Senate nominee Ken Paxton will now face James Talarico, the far-left state legislator who beat U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crocket in the Democrat primary.  Talarico immediately called on former Senator John Cornyn supporters to join his campaign. Talarico has raised $40.3 million after launching his campaign in September 2025. Cornyn had a war chest of $26 million while Paxton has raised about $8 million.

Paxton supports election integrity, a ban on abortion, supports capital punishment, spoken against RINOs in the Texas legislature, is against the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), opposed CA Prop 12 which was an animal welfare rights bill, opposed President Joe Biden’s environmental policies, is against guaranteed income, and opposed the COVID-19 face mask requirements.

Paxton was elected as the 51st Texas Attorney General in 2015 and rose to power as an ally of the Tea Party Movement. He was re-elected as Texas Attorney General in 2018 and 2022. Previously, Paxton was an 8th District Texas State Senator from 2013 to 2015 and the 70th District Texas House of Representatives member from 2003 to 2013. He is 63-years-old.
